The Cooperative The Vines

That the wine is made in the vine, is a reality that during generations has been transmitted to the men and women of Portell, they are, the partners grape growers, who day to day cultivate the vines with much well-taken care and illusion to obtain the best fruits.

The more than 1000 ha of vines, planted from 350 to almost 700 meters of altitude to the north of the wine region of the Conca de Barberà, are of the highest vines in Catalunya, where a sustainable and reasoned grape growing is being made, locating each variety of grape there where it obtains a greater balance and develops its fully qualities.

We have macabeu and parellada as our white varieties, and in reds tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and mainly the native Trepat, being this the variety of reference and the most cultivated in our vines.

Trepat
Black variety, native of the Conca de Barberà. Vigorous stock of right bearing and good production. The clusters are great and compact. The production is good, gives wines of high quality, of averaged alcoholic graduation (10º-11º), good acidity and gentleness in the aroma, very adecuated for young rosé wines and mainly the base for our cavas. It is the more cultivated variety in our vineyards and is the raw material that confers tipicity and quality in our pink wines, as much the calm wines as wines of needle and cavas.
Trepat
Macabeu
Traditional variety in Catalunya, plants vigorous that fructifies with heavy and compact grapes, the grain is round and of fine skin. It is a productive grape that gives wines of an extraordinary quality from 10 to 12 degrees, fruity, fresh, balanced and of much fineness, that turns them suitable for white wines and cavas. It is the predominant white variety in our products.
Macabeu
Parellada
It's the finest of the white varieties, width a characteristic grain between golden and pink. Their grapes are of fat and spherical grains. It adapts well to high and fresh zones with poor grounds. It originates white wines of moderate graduation, of fragile aroma, fruity and elegant, that in coupage with macabeu give personality to our wines and cavas.
Parellada
Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo)
Black variety, also denominated tempranillo, main in Spain and little cultivated in our vineyards, although is present from before the phylloxera. Of medium and compact cluster with round grain and medium skin. It produces aromatic wines, well balanced of acidity and medium graduation. It is the base of our young black wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Black variety of French origin, cultivated in most of the countries of the world. The cluster is small of round grains and heavy skin. It allows to elaborate wines of great quality of high graduation and coloration, astringent when younger. The aging raises its great fineness and potencionality. It's an important part of the Portell Crianza and the Portell Reserva.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
Black variety of French origin, very cultivated in our vineyards lately. It produces half-full clusters of round grains. The wine is of great quality, with an quite elevated alcoholic degree that ages quickly without losing its qualities. And we can enjoy it in the Portell Merlot. Ideal to add fineness and elegance to cabernet sauvignon. Next to that we found it in the Portell Crianza and the Portell Reserva.
